Description
uugot.it represents a   valid support to this great social challenge not only to help them learn the   language of their host country, but also to integrate them into society, at   the same time offering all immigrants – of different kinds, from refugees to   workers or students – a simple, cheap and interactive way to learn better the language of the host country, by simply watching TV through a smart and   intuitive app.
Why TV? A study by   Kaplan International shows that 82% of people learn English by watching   television and therefore use TV as a source for language learning.   Multimediality allows the intersection of verbal and non-verbal codes, offering   the spectator a multi-sensorial (and multimodal) experience that facilitates   the understanding of the message.    Furthermore TV, as a means for language learning, leads to a very   motivational learning environment: the viewers learn in a surrounding environment   which motivates them to improve foreign language skills while doing something   they love: watching TV. This motivational factor is even more important as   the app is especially addressed to adult migrants: in their case, motivation   is often much stronger compared to that of foreign language students, because   adults start learning L2 for reasons related to their working and social   life, namely self-accomplishment, self-esteem, improvement of professional   competences, and so on. Nevertheless, it is hard for them to go “back to   school” and attend language courses where they would be under the authority   of a teacher, and self-learning through books or the web can often be   difficult, dispersive and time-consuming.
